Originally built in 1793 by two gentlemen called Mr Roland Webster and a Mr John Grimshore. It was the worlds first paten rope works and became derelict and remained so for so many years. It was famous for making fibre ropes by machine instead of a ropewalk, and because of this many people from around the world visited it from many countries.

It was restored in 1983 by Sunderland City Council so now the Ropery provides commercial and leisure facilities.

The Ropery
Some people say its haunted by Roland himself and his daughter Emily, but its still yet to be confirmed!!!
